Empowering Students.
Supporting Educators.

Why Students and Schools Struggle

60% of Colorado’s third graders can’t read at grade level, and many educators lack the specialized training to deliver effective, sustainable literacy instruction. While we know more than ever about how children learn to read and which systems best support them, most schools lack the time, expertise, and budget to build a literacy system on their own.

How Colorado Reads Makes a Difference

Colorado Reads is a literacy nonprofit that supports students’ reading growth and provides educators with specialized training, strengthening both student outcomes and school literacy ecosystems. We use Science of Reading–based tools to provide a wide range of programs that help schools develop stronger readers, more confident teachers, and a sustainable literacy intervention system over a three to five-year period.

Making the Case

Every year a child is behind in reading, the harder it becomes to catch up. While Colorado has set ambitious literacy goals for K-3, students continue to fall through the cracks. Schools need help creating a holistic strategy and system for implementation. Teachers want and need more training. Understanding the Science of Reading is crucial for teachers at every grade level, as is the ability to identify and address gaps in all students’ foundational skills.

Colorado Reads is poised to help close this gap with a promising new model that strengthens schoolwide literacy systems and improves reading for all students. Now, we seek support to further test and refine our model for replication in more schools.

By supporting Colorado Reads, you can help more children become confident readers—because when kids can read, they can learn anything.

Colorado Reads listened to our school’s needs. They have been the only organization that has put boots to ground to tackle the inequities our students are facing. It’s been the best external partnership we’ve ever had.
